MultiVersus gets a new gameplay trailer and Open Beta launch date

Warner has also announced that the game will support a dedicated server-based rollback netcode. Players interested in getting into the beta early will be able to do so on July 19, if they participated in previous tests for the game. Game Informer got to test out the closed alpha where they offer the game "just might be a contender" and the reviewer is "impressed with what I've played so far."

The two pairs begin fighting, throwing Batarangs and pies, resulting in Shaggy bringing the meme to life and going Ultra Instinct. The MultiVersus trailer (which we've embedded slightly further down this page) made it clear that there will be several different ways to take part in MultiVersus gameplay. The trailer also promised "dedicated server-based rollback netcode", which should apparently mean there isn't any input lag getting in the way of your fun with friends. There will be microtransactions in the game itself, and a Founder's Pass you can buy to get a few digital items, but the basic gameplay experience won't cost you anything. The MultiVersus closed alpha was the first of these tests, and it ran from 19th May to 27th May.

Players who took part in it first had to declare their interest on the game's official website. This MultiVersus open beta will be available on the PlayStation and Xbox consoles as well as on the PC platform with full cross-play and cross-progression support. Best of all for those who want to take part, the open beta will be free to play, too. A list of characters reportedly coming to MultiVersus includes Ted Lasso, Scorpion, Fred Flintstone, Samurai Jack and Godzilla, according to a reliable leaker.

Some characters also have variants, or skins, based on other characters, such as Uncle Shagworthy and Cake being skins of Shaggy and Jake, respectively. Characters can be unlocked through gameplay or purchased using Character Tokens included with the "Founder's Pack" content packages, with a rotating selection of characters available for all players to use. New characters are planned to be added to the game as post-launch content. The open beta for the game officially started July 26, starting with 17 characters including Superman, Shaggy, The Iron Giant, Bugs Bunny, and more .

Each character has their own set of skills and special moves, two factors that contribute to an even greater variety of gameplay through the ability to use combat moves that are always original and fit the style of the game. During the game's open beta period, Bugs Bunny players held the number-one ranked slot in both 1-v-1 and 2-v-2 leaderboards. The character's prevalence among top-ranked 2-v-2 players was notable, and nerfs to the character have been scheduled to be implemented after EVO 2022. As a Support archetype character, she’s fantastic at both buffing her allies and dealing damage to her enemies. Her Fast Thinker Special Attack can be devastating if timed correctly and she can even call in the cops to clear out her enemies thanks to her Snoopin’ Passive Ability once you collect enough evidence. If there’s someone you can count on to be deadly, wherever they are, it’s not Arya Stark of Winterfell. Her attacks make the most of Needle – her sword – to cut through defences and deal a lot of damage.
